Building industry
Materials used in construction and the building envelope — prepainted steels, cladding, profiles, fasteners — are exposed throughout their service life to a wide variety of atmospheres: marine, urban, industrial or rural. The durability of these materials drives the energy performance of buildings, their aesthetics and their maintenance cost. The French Corrosion Institute is a partner and coordinator of numerous collaborative R&D projects with the building industry, actively contributing to the assessment and development of innovative solutions for prepainted products.
Our missions
- Assess the corrosion resistance of prepainted products across different markets and environments.
- Study the application of new environmentally-friendly products.
- Support the development of prepainted products with improved long-term resistance.
- Assess the corrosion resistance of prepainted materials with specific surface functionalities.
Our services
- Participation in cost-shared projects
- Technical consultancy and expertise: material selection, failure analysis
- Laboratory testing: neutral or acetic salt spray, cyclic corrosion, Prohesion test, Bac-Ford test, continuous condensation (QCT), UV-condensation, durability assessments
- Real-world exposure on a worldwide network of atmospheric sites (C2 to C5M for steel, in accordance with EN 10169)
- Determination of indoor and outdoor atmospheric corrosivity (ISO 9223, ISO 9225, ISO 9226)
